Airbus 'flying car' to soon hit the skies
Airbus Group has revealed that it will soon test a single passenger flying car, to be made available by the end of this year. The company formed a new division with the name of “Urban Mobility” by the end of 2016. The concept behind this division was to create a vehicle that would be capable of transporting people through skies, the idea borrowed from helicopters.
Earlier, the initial idea of the company was to develop a vehicle that would work as a ride-hailing on-demand flying vehicle or helicopter. Airbus CEO Tom Enders, DLD digital conference in Munich, while secretly unveiling the new concept said:
“One hundred years ago, urban transport went underground, now we have the technological wherewithal to go above ground.”
He further said that he had hopes that the company will have a prototype ready by the end of this year, aiming for a one person flying. Furthermore, the experimental phase has taken the development to the completion phase. Airbus’ new technology will be environmental friendly, without any chances of spreading pollution, and eradicating traffic jams at the same time.
Apart from working as a mediator between new-era technology, CEO Tom also revealed that it will help reduce the cost of city’s infrastructure development (roads, bridges, underpasses, and overpasses).
Urban Air Mobility is currently under wraps and is expected to grace the skies by the end of this year.
